Terceira Island is part of the Azores archipelago, Portugal. Its name refers to the fact that it was the third island of the archipelago to be discovered, after Santa Maria and São Miguel.

The island is approximately 18 km wide by 29 km long, with a perimeter of 90 km and an area of 396.75 km². The highest point is at 1022 meters above sea level in the Serra de Santa Bárbara, in the western zone. The capital of the island is Angra do Heroísmo, the second city being Praia da Vitória with 56,477 inhabitants (2011 census).
