Physical map of Fujian, China
The territory of Fujian is mountainous, with a very steep orography. This geographical situation has made the land communications of the province with the rest of the country difficult. The first railroad did not reach the area until the mid-1950s and the roads that existed until that time were not good enough to facilitate communication in the area. This late development of the region means that today the province has the greatest extension of forests and the most varied biosphere in all of China.
