Fujian is one of the twenty-two provinces that, together with the five autonomous regions, four municipalities and two special administrative regions, make up the People's Republic of China. Its capital is Fuzhou. It limits to the north with Zhejiang, to the east with the Strait of Taiwan (sea of the South China) that separates it of the island of Taiwan - located at 180 km of distance -, to the south with the Canton and to the west with Jiangxi. It occupies an area of 120,000 km² and its population in 2003 was almost 32 million inhabitants.
