Physically located in the south of the country, bathed by the Pearl River, the third longest in China. Guangdong has an area of 186,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 75 million inhabitants (2003). It is one of the most prosperous regions of the country thanks to its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao, and to the growing commercial and economic integration of the region formed by these three territories.
