Rio Grande is a city and autonomous municipality of the province of Tierra del Fuego in the Argentine Republic, located on the northeast coast of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, on the shores of the Argentine Sea, within the Atlantic Ocean and its tributary, the Rio Grande, from which the city takes its name.

In 2010 it had a population of 66,475 inhabitants, but estimates indicate that by 2015 it could have expanded to over 80,000 inhabitants.

The city is the de facto head of the Rio Grande department located within the province and the most populated city of the province of Tierra del Fuego, and is, in turn, the most populated of the entire island if you include the sector that Chile occupy.

It boasts to be the most southern industrial city of Argentina and a strong economic pole that is transcendent within the Economy of Argentina since a large number of industrial processes are carried out and a number of national and international factories are rooted in the city. The municipal charter was sanctioned on November 30, 2006.
