Comodoro Rivadavia, colloquially known in the region as Comodoro, is the most inhabited city in the province of Chubut and the head of the Escalante department in Argentina. It is located in the eastern center of Patagonia in the heart of the hydrocarbon zone of the San Jorge Gulf. Together with Neuquén, it is the most important city in Argentine Patagonia. The nearest cities are: Caleta Olivia at 78 kilometers and Colonia Sarmiento at 150 kilometers.
Comodoro Rivadavia is a commercial hub, regional transport and an important point of export. Through its port oil, regional industrial and agricultural products leave the world. It has a gas pipeline, which at the time was the longest in the world, connecting Comodoro Rivadavia with Buenos Aires since 1949. In 1960, with a greater diameter and capacity the General San Martín gas pipeline was built in parallel with the previous one.
