Unlike the other provinces of the country, the Buenos Aires Province political divisions are called partidos instead of departments. These also constitute the municipal division of the province. The partidos-municipalities divide the entire provincial territory. As of December 2009 there were 135 partidos. The last partido officially promulgated by law is the partido of Lezama (12/22/2009).
