Río Gallegos is a city in Argentina, capital of the province of Santa Cruz. Located at the mouth of the Gallegos river, in the Güer Aike department, it is the most populated city of the province - with 98,000, according to the 2010 census INDEC - and the center for tourist activities in the area. The tourist offer of the city is conformed by museums, historical-cultural monuments and urban circuits; as well as an estuary that houses thousands of resident and migratory birds. Outside the urban area you can choose the hospitality of the tourist stays, you can go tour through the volcanic landscape of the Blue Lagoon or an excursion to the Cabo Vírgenes Wildlife Reserve, one of the largest penguin colony in South America that hosts, from October to April, more than 150,000 Magellanic penguins.
