Spain physical map indicating terrain the altitude and topography. Map 2005.

The relief of Spain is characterized by being quite high, with an average altitude of 660 meters, quite mountainous compared to other countries in Europe and only surpassed by Switzerland, Austria and the micro-states of Andorra and Liechtenstein. In peninsular Spain, the relief is articulated around a great Central Plateau that occupies the greater part of the center of the Iberian peninsula and that has an average altitude of 660 meters. Outside the plateau is the depression of the Guadalquivir river, located in the southwest of the peninsula, and the Ebro river, in the northeast of the peninsula.
