Argentina's ninth-largest, Rio Negro's economy is a diversified service-based one with vigorous agricultural and light manufacturing sectors. Its 2006 output was an estimated US$5.420 billion, or a per capita income of US$9,805. In 2013, its output increased to $43.349 billon Pesos (about US$7.939 billion) at current market prices.
Cattle ranch: The Province develops livestock intensively, sending calves for wintering in regions of the Province of Buenos Aires and in the Province of La Pampa. The sheep herd constitutes 13% of the national total and extends throughout the central and southern area of the province.
Industry: Production of cider and juices in the Alto Valle (from Cipolletti to Villa Regina), as well as fine wools, fishing with hake, squid and shrimp.
Mining: Iron exploitation in Sierra Grande, bentonite and flagstone in Ingeniero Jacobacci and Los Menucos, salt in San Antonio, oil and gas in Catriel and the provincial north.
