Satellite mosaic image of Austria
This satellite mosaic image of Austria is composed of three ASAR Wide Swath Images covering the entire country of Austria. As can be seen in the image, Austria is a predominantly mountainous country with an average elevation of about 910 metres. Most of the land lies within the eastern division of the Alps, the highest and most densely settled mountain belt in Europe. Its capital, Vienna, is shown in bright colours on the Danube River in the northeast of the country. The Danube, the Austria's principal river is the second longest river in Europe and one of the continent's principal traffic arteries. Image acquired 2003.
