Rosario is a city located in the southeast of the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. It is the most populated city in the province of Santa Fe and the third most populated city in the country, just behind Buenos Aires and Córdoba. It is the head of the homonymous department.
It constitutes an important cultural, economic, educational, financial and entertainment center and forms part of the so-called Agrarian Triangle, together with the localities of Pergamino and Venado Tuerto.
It is located on the western margin of the Paraná River, part of the Paraná-Paraguay waterway, on which a port of 140 hectares is located that handles both general and bulk cargo.
Together with several localities in the area, it forms the Greater Rosario Area (with 1 691 880 inhabitants, according to the 2010 census), which exceeds and includes the Greater Rosario (the third urban conglomerate in the country with 1 236 089 people) and the Rosario department.
The metropolis is part of a region of great economic importance. About 70% of the country's cereal production is exported through its port the Greater Rosario generates the first urban PGB per capita in Argentina, surpassing Greater Buenos Aires and Greater Córdoba, being the third in Latin America after Miami and Brasilia with US $ 21496.
