The unification of Germany 1865-1871
The unification of Germany was a historical process that took place in the second half of the 19th century in Central Europe and culminated in the creation of the German Empire on January 18, 1871, bringing together various previously independent states.
It was a union established in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna that grouped 39 German states in a confederation of sovereign states under the presidency of the House of Austria, to replace the extinct Sacrum Germanic Roman Empire destroyed by Napoleón.
