The Abbasid caliphate was the third of the Islamic caliphates successors of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. And the second dynasty of Sunni caliphs, which followed that of the Umayyads. It is also known as the caliphate of Baghdad, since the Abbasid caliphate was founded in Kufa in 750 and changed its capital in 762 to Baghdad.
