This map shows where basically population is concentrated in South America. Clearly, the interior is sparsely populated, while the coasts are home to a dozen cities with more than 1,000,000 people. Sao Paulo is by far the largest city. Lima is the only city in Peru with more than a million persons. There are no major cities in Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.
