South Asia Map.

South Asia or Southern Asia, is a term used to represent the southern region of the Asian continent, which comprises the sub-Himalayan SAARC countries. It consists of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they comprise 3% of the world's area, 21% of the world's population and 3.8% (US$2.9 trillion) of the global economy, as of 2015.

Geographically it covers the countries between the Iranian plateau (south of the Amu Darya and Central Asia) and the Indian subcontinent (south of the Himalayas). From a cultural point of view, South Asia is the origin of the Indo-Aryans (also called Aryans) of Indo-Iranian languages and is surrounded by the Arab world, the Turkic peoples and the Far East.

South Asia is one of the twenty-two subregions in which the UN divides the world.

It consists of nine countries

  2. Bangladesh
  3. Bhutan
  4. India
  5. Iran
  6. Maldives
  7. Nepal
  8. Pakistan
  9. Sri Lanka
Its major cities are: Delhi, Karachi, Bombay and Dhaka.

It is limited to the North with Central Asia and East Asia, to the South and Southwest with the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf, to the East with Southeast Asia and the Bay of Bengal, and to the West with West Asia.
