The world is divided into 6 continents Africa, America, Antarctica, Asia, Europe and Oceania, which in turn are divided politically into 196 countries.
The continent with the highest number of countries is Africa with a total of 54 sovereign states, 3 dependent territories and several territories integrated in non-African states like France, Spain or Portugal that comprise of the Ultraperipheral Region of the European Union, as well as a territory Integrated in Yemen.
Asia divided politically into 48 independent countries, 5 dependencies, 6 states with limited recognition and 2 administrative regions.
America politically divided into 35 independent countries and 23 dependencies of European countries (Denmark, United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands) that make up the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT), and the United States.
Europe politically divided into 50 sovereign states, eight states with limited recognition, six dependent territories (only one part of the European Union) and three autonomous regions integrated in the European Union.
Oceania is composed of 14 independent nations, 14 dependencies (from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, New Zealand and Australia) and 5 territories integrated into other non-oceanic nations.
