Boyacá is one of the thirty-two departments that, together with Bogotá, Capital District, form the Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Tunja. It is located in the central-eastern part of the country, in the Andean region, bordering on the north with Santander and Norte de Santander, on the northeast with Venezuela and Arauca, on the east with Casanare, on the south with Cundinamarca and on the west with Caldas and Antioquia.
The department of Boyacá is divided into 123 municipalities, 123 corregimientos, 185 police inspections, hamlets and populated areas distributed in 13 provinces, a border district and a special handling zone. The municipalities are grouped in 45 notary circles with a total of 53 notaries, a main registration circle based in Tunja and 13 sectional registration offices. There are 2 judicial districts, one with headquarters in Tunja, and 7 circuit heads, with 11 circuit heads in the municipalities of Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Duitama, El Cocuy, Paz de Río, Soatá, Socha and Sogamoso in the department of Boyacá , And Monterrey, Orocué, Paz del Ariporo and Yopal in the department of Casanare. The department forms the constituency of Boyacá.
