Fires, smoke and burn scars in Alaska
Multiple large wildfires are burning in Alaska on August 4, 2002. According to National Interagency Fire Center reports more than 288,000 acres are ablaze across the state. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image shows fires (red dots) and the heavy smoke being produced. Compared to the image from August 1, fire activity appears to have significantly increased. In this false-color images, vegetation is bright green, and burned areas are reddish-brown. Smoke is blue.
