Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is an American country located in the northern part of South America, consisting of a continental part and a large number of small islands in the Caribbean Sea, whose capital and largest urban agglomeration is the city of Caracas. It has an area of ​​916 445 km², making it the 32nd largest country in the world in terms of territory. Its borders are delimited to the north with the Caribbean Sea, to the west with Colombia, to the south with Brazil and to the east with Guyana, with which it maintains territorial disputes. Through its maritime zones, it has sovereignty over 71,295 km² of territorial sea, 22,224 km² in the contiguous zone, 471 507 km² of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean under the concept of exclusive economic zone, and 99,889 km² of continental shelf. This marine area borders thirteen sovereign states, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Barbados being some of them. Its population is estimated at 31,703,499 inhabitants and the national capital is Caracas.

The country is widely known for its vast oil reserves, the environmental diversity of its territory and its diverse natural resources. It is considered a megadiverse country, with a diverse fauna and a wide variety of protected habitats. The colors of the Venezuelan flag are yellow, blue and red, in that order: yellow represents the wealth of the land, blue the sea and sky of the country, and red the blood shed by the heroes of independence.
