Parana River, Brazil
This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from June 30, 2002, shows the Parana River in southern Brazil and several of its tributaries. The Parana runs northeast to southwest through the left edge of the image. The large, northern tributary is the Grande River, roughly in the center of the image. To its south is the Tieti River, whose watershed drains the industrial regions around the city of Sco Paulo--a situation that gives rise to numerous water quality problems for the river. Sco Paulo can be seen at the lower right of the image, as a grayish cluster of pixels amid the green tropical vegetation found at the countrys Atlantic Coast.
