Au recensement de 2001, le Portugal comptait deux agglom\u00e9rations importantes : la r\u00e9gion m\u00e9tropolitaine de Lisbonne (3,34 millions d’habitants) et la r\u00e9gion urbaine-m\u00e9tropolitaine du littoral nord (ou agglom\u00e9ration m\u00e9tropolitaine de Porto) avec 2,99 millions d’habitants, cette derni\u00e8re de nature polycentrique. Ces agglom\u00e9rations plus larges sont distinctes des zones m\u00e9tropolitaines politiques de Lisbonne et Porto \u2013 R\u00e9gion m\u00e9tropolitaine de Lisbonne (2,8 millions) et Grande Aire m\u00e9tropolitaine de Porto (1,8 million). Ensemble, ils d\u00e9tiennent 43 % de la population totale.<\/p>\n

Le tableau plus bas r\u00e9pertorie les villes portugaises de plus de 30 000 habitants au recensement du 21 mars 2011. L’unit\u00e9 administrative sup\u00e9rieure (district) \u00e0 laquelle appartient la ville est \u00e9galement r\u00e9pertori\u00e9e. Ces chiffres repr\u00e9sentent la population de la zone urbaine g\u00e9ographique – et non \u00e0 la ville ou \u00e0 la municipalit\u00e9 au sens politique du terme.<\/p>\n
