La plus grande partie de la ville peut \u00eatre compt\u00e9e comme faisant partie d&#8217;une zone sablonneuse.<\/p>\n<p>Auparavant, la mer atteignait le nord de Bruges. La ville \u00e9tait alors reli\u00e9e \u00e0 la c\u00f4te par un chenal naturel, le <em>getijdengeul<\/em> qui \u00e9tait soumis \u00e0 l&#8217;action des mar\u00e9es. La pold\u00e9risation progressive \u00e0 partir du xie si\u00e8cle a fait dispara\u00eetre ces chenaux. Aujourd&#8217;hui, le c\u0153ur historique de Bruges se situe \u00e0 une quinzaine de kilom\u00e8tres de la mer du Nord. Le rattachement progressif des villes alentour a permis de faire de Bruges une ville c\u00f4ti\u00e8re dont le port est Zeebruges.
