Sa partie la plus profonde est d&#8217;environ 340 m\u00e8tres, tandis que la profondeur moyenne est de 220 m\u00e8tres. C&#8217;est une source \u00e9conomique importante du d\u00e9partement de Solol\u00e1, o\u00f9 il se trouve, ainsi qu&#8217;un centre touristique de grand int\u00e9r\u00eat commercial.<\/p>\n<p>Le lac Atitl\u00e1n est reconnu comme l\u2019un des plus beaux lacs de la plan\u00e8te Terre et constitue l\u2019une des attractions touristiques nationales et internationales les plus importantes de tout le Guatemala. L&#8217;explorateur et naturaliste allemand Alexander von Humboldt et National Geographic ont qualifi\u00e9 cet endroit de \u00ab plus beau lac du monde \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le lac correspond \u00e0 une caldeira volcanique. Sur ses marges s&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e8vent les volcans Atitl\u00e1n (3 537 m d&#8217;altitude), Tolim\u00e1n (3 158 m d&#8217;altitude) et San Pedro (3 020 m d&#8217;altitude).
