Son littoral, long de 1 600 km environ, est le plus long du pays et se situe en grande partie sur la p\u00e9ninsule de Kathiawar. Le Gujarat est le cinqui\u00e8me plus grand \u00c9tat indien par sa superficie, couvrant quelque 196 024 km\u00b2 ; et le neuvi\u00e8me \u00c9tat le plus peupl\u00e9, avec une population de 60,4 millions d&#8217;habitants en 2011. Il est bord\u00e9 par le Rajasthan au nord-est, Dadra et Nagar Haveli et Daman et Diu au sud, Maharashtra au sud-est, Madhya Pradesh \u00e0 l&#8217;est et la mer d&#8217;Arabie et la province pakistanaise du Sind \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest. La capitale du Gujarat est Gandhinagar, tandis que sa plus grande ville est Ahmedabad. Les sites les plus importants sont Lothal (la premi\u00e8re cale s\u00e8che du monde), Dholavira (le cinqui\u00e8me plus grand site) et Gola Dhoro (o\u00f9 5 sceaux peu communs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverts). Lothal est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l&#8217;un des premiers ports maritimes du monde. Les villes c\u00f4ti\u00e8res du Gujarat, principalement Bharuch et Khambhat, servaient de ports et de centres commerciaux dans les empires Maurya et Gupta et pendant la succession des dynasties royales Saka \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9poque des satrapes occidentaux. Avec le Bihar, le Mizoram et le Nagaland, le Gujarat est l&#8217;un des quatre \u00c9tats indiens \u00e0 interdire la vente d&#8217;alcool. Le parc national et sanctuaire faunique de Gir au Gujarat abrite la seule population sauvage de lions d&#8217;Asie au monde.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9conomie du Gujarat est la quatri\u00e8me plus grande d&#8217;Inde, avec un produit int\u00e9rieur brut (PIB) de 16,55 billions de roupies (\u00e9quivalent \u00e0 19 billions de roupies ou 220 milliards de dollars am\u00e9ricains en 2023) et le dixi\u00e8me PIB par habitant le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 du pays, soit 215 000 roupies (2 600 dollars am\u00e9ricains). Le Gujarat est l&#8217;\u00c9tat qui exporte le plus, repr\u00e9sentant environ un tiers des exportations nationales. Le Gujarat se classe au 21<sup>e<\/sup> rang parmi les \u00c9tats et territoires indiens en termes d&#8217;indice de d\u00e9veloppement humain.
