Il est d\u00e9limit\u00e9 par les \u00c9tats indiens du Maharashtra au nord, du Karnataka \u00e0 l&#8217;est et au sud, et par la mer d&#8217;Arabie \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest. La onzi\u00e8me Commission des finances de l&#8217;Inde a d\u00e9sign\u00e9 Goa comme l&#8217;\u00c9tat le mieux plac\u00e9 en raison de ses infrastructures, et la Commission nationale indienne de la population l&#8217;a class\u00e9 comme ayant la meilleure qualit\u00e9 de vie en Inde (sur la base des \u00ab 12 indicateurs \u00bb de la commission). Il se classe au deuxi\u00e8me rang parmi les \u00c9tats indiens en termes d&#8217;indice de d\u00e9veloppement humain.<\/p>\n<p>Panaji est la capitale de l&#8217;\u00c9tat, tandis que Vasco da Gama est sa plus grande ville. La ville historique de Marg\u00e3o \u00e0 Goa pr\u00e9sente encore l&#8217;influence culturelle des Portugais, qui ont voyag\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans le sous-continent au d\u00e9but du XVI<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle en tant que marchands et l&#8217;ont conquis peu de temps apr\u00e8s, apr\u00e8s quoi Goa est devenue un territoire d&#8217;outre-mer de l&#8217;Empire portugais, une partie de ce qui \u00e9tait alors connu sous le nom d&#8217;Inde portugaise, et est rest\u00e9e ainsi pendant environ 456 ans jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 son annexion par l&#8217;Inde en 1961. La langue officielle de Goa, qui est parl\u00e9e par une majorit\u00e9 de ses habitants, est le konkani.<\/p>\n<p>Goa est visit\u00e9e chaque ann\u00e9e par un grand nombre de touristes internationaux et nationaux en raison de ses plages de sable blanc, de sa vie nocturne anim\u00e9e, de ses lieux de culte et de son architecture class\u00e9e au patrimoine mondial.
