C&#8217;est le troisi\u00e8me plus grand \u00c9tat en termes de population, le douzi\u00e8me en termes de superficie et le quinzi\u00e8me en termes de PIB en 2021. Le 15 novembre 2000, le sud du Bihar a \u00e9t\u00e9 c\u00e9d\u00e9 pour former le nouvel \u00c9tat du Jharkhand. Selon un rapport de 2020, seulement 11,27 % de la population du Bihar vit dans des zones urbaines. De plus, pr\u00e8s de 58 % des Biharis ont moins de 25 ans, ce qui fait du Bihar la province qui compte la plus forte proportion de jeunes de tous les \u00c9tats indiens. La langue officielle est l&#8217;hindi, qui partage le statut officiel avec l&#8217;ourdou. Les principales langues maternelles sont le ma\u00efthili, le magahi et le bhojpuri. Mais plusieurs autres langues sont parl\u00e9es \u00e0 des niveaux moindres.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9tat pauvre, environ 93 % de la population du Bihar travaille dans l\u2019agriculture sur des petites surfaces pour de faibles revenus. L\u2019\u00c9tat est \u00e9galement un important pourvoyeur de travailleurs migrants.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis la fin des ann\u00e9es 1970, le Bihar est \u00e0 la tra\u00eene par rapport aux autres \u00c9tats indiens en termes de d\u00e9veloppement social et \u00e9conomique. De nombreux \u00e9conomistes et sp\u00e9cialistes des sciences sociales affirment que ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est le r\u00e9sultat direct des politiques du gouvernement central, telles que la politique de p\u00e9r\u00e9quation du fret, son apathie envers le Bihar, l&#8217;absence de sous-nationalisme bihari et le <em>Permanent Settlement<\/em> de 1793 par la Compagnie britannique des Indes orientales. Le gouvernement de l&#8217;\u00c9tat a cependant fait des progr\u00e8s significatifs dans le d\u00e9veloppement de l&#8217;\u00c9tat.
