Il est issu de la r\u00e9gion de la <em>North-East Frontier Agency<\/em> (NEFA), et l&#8217;Inde l&#8217;a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 comme \u00c9tat le 20 f\u00e9vrier 1987. Itanagar est sa capitale et sa plus grande ville. L&#8217;Arunachal Pradesh est revendiqu\u00e9 par la Chine comme faisant partie de la r\u00e9gion autonome du Tibet ; la Chine a occup\u00e9 certaines r\u00e9gions de l&#8217;Arunachal Pradesh en 1962 mais a ensuite retir\u00e9 ses forces.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le recensement indien de 2011, l&#8217;Arunachal Pradesh comptait 1 383 727 habitants et s&#8217;\u00e9tendait sur une superficie de 83 743 kilom\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s. Avec seulement 17 habitants au kilom\u00e8tre carr\u00e9, c&#8217;est l&#8217;\u00c9tat le moins dens\u00e9ment peupl\u00e9 de l&#8217;Inde.<\/p>\n<p>C&#8217;est un \u00c9tat ethniquement diversifi\u00e9, avec une pr\u00e9dominance des Monpa \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest, des Tani au centre, des Mishmi et des Tai \u00e0 l&#8217;est et des Naga au sud-est de l&#8217;\u00c9tat. Environ 26 tribus principales et 100 sous-tribus vivent dans l&#8217;\u00c9tat, dont les Nocte, les Adi, les Nyishi, les Singpho, les Galo, les Tagin et les Apatani. Les Nyishi sont le groupe ethnique le plus important de la r\u00e9gion.
