L&#8217;\u00eele \u00e9tait autrefois le dixi\u00e8me district de l&#8217;\u00eele Maurice ; elle a obtenu un statut autonome le 10 d\u00e9cembre 2002 et est gouvern\u00e9e par l&#8217;Assembl\u00e9e r\u00e9gionale de Rodrigues. La capitale de l&#8217;\u00eele est Port Mathurin. Les \u00eeles de Rodrigues, Agal\u00e9ga et Saint Brandon font partie du territoire plus vaste de la R\u00e9publique de Maurice.<\/p>\n<p>Ses habitants sont des citoyens mauriciens. En 2014, la population de l&#8217;\u00eele \u00e9tait d&#8217;environ 41 669 habitants, selon <em>Statistics Mauritius<\/em>. La plupart des habitants sont d&#8217;origine africaine.
