Contrairement aux \u00c9tats-Unis, le pouvoir du gouvernement central (\u00e0 l\u2019exception du pouvoir militaire) n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 exerc\u00e9 par le biais d\u2019un ensemble parall\u00e8le d\u2019institutions jusqu\u2019au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1990. Parfois, les fronti\u00e8res provinciales forment des fronti\u00e8res culturelles ou g\u00e9ographiques. Il s\u2019agissait d\u2019une tentative du gouvernement imp\u00e9rial de d\u00e9courager le s\u00e9paratisme et les seigneurs de guerre par une politique de diviser pour r\u00e9gner. N\u00e9anmoins, les provinces jouent d\u00e9sormais un r\u00f4le culturel important en Chine. Les gens ont tendance \u00e0 \u00eatre identifi\u00e9s en fonction de leur province d&#8217;origine, et chaque province a un st\u00e9r\u00e9otype qui correspond \u00e0 ses habitants.<\/p>\n<p>Les changements administratifs les plus r\u00e9cents ont inclus l&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e9vation de Hainan (1988) et de Chongqing (1997) au statut de province, et la cr\u00e9ation de Hong Kong (1997) et de
