Elle est situ\u00e9e au sud-ouest de l&#8217;Islande, sur la rive sud de la baie de Faxafl\u00f3i. Sa latitude est de 64\u00b008\u2032 N, ce qui en fait la capitale d&#8217;un \u00c9tat souverain la plus septentrionale du monde. Reykjavik compte environ 140 000 habitants en 2023 (contre 121 822 en 2015). Jusqu&#8217;au XVIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, il n&#8217;y avait pas de d\u00e9veloppement urbain dans la ville. La ville a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement fond\u00e9e en 1786 en tant que ville commer\u00e7ante et a connu une croissance constante au cours des d\u00e9cennies suivantes, se transformant en un centre r\u00e9gional puis national de commerce, de population et d&#8217;activit\u00e9s gouvernementales.<\/p>\n<p>Reykjav\u00edk est le centre de l&#8217;activit\u00e9 culturelle, \u00e9conomique et gouvernementale de l&#8217;Islande et une destination touristique populaire aupr\u00e8s des \u00e9trangers.
