Le chef-lieu de la province est Am Timan. Les groupes ethnico-linguistiques principaux sont les Arabes Salamat, Arabes Hemat, Arabes Rachid, les Arabes kolomat ethnie d&#8217;origine djaadn\u00e9 venu du Batha dans les ann\u00e9es 1800, les Kibets (dont les deux branches principales sont les Angreb et les Soumsoum), les Dagals, les Rounga, les Iyalnas et les Torams. Par ailleurs, on trouve aussi des Sara-Kaba (plus nombreux dans la province voisine du Moyen-Chari).<\/p>\n<p>La province est situ\u00e9e au sud-ouest du pays et borde la province du Sila au nord, la R\u00e9publique centrafricaine au sud-est, et la province du Moyen-Chari et la province du Gu\u00e9ra \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest et au nord-ouest. Le relief est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement une savane plate. La moiti\u00e9 du parc national de Zakouma se trouve dans la province.<\/p>\n<p>Am Timan est la capitale de la province; les autres grandes agglom\u00e9rations comprennent Abgu\u00e9, Abou-De\u00efa, Am Habil\u00e9, Djouna, Haraze, Mangueigne et Mouraye.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9conomie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9conomie de Salamat est bas\u00e9e sur l&#8217;agriculture de subsistance, la p\u00eache et le coton. Salamat a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite comme la \u00abr\u00e9gion la plus pauvre du monde\u00bb par la Banque mondiale, le Fonds mon\u00e9taire international et d&#8217;autres sources.
