Situ\u00e9 dans une zone agricole, Kaolack est un important centre de commercialisation et d&#8217;exportation d&#8217;arachides et poss\u00e8de une grande usine d&#8217;huile d&#8217;arachide. La brasserie, le tannage du cuir, l&#8217;\u00e9grenage du coton et la transformation du poisson sont \u00e9galement des industries importantes. Le sel est produit \u00e0 partir des salines pr\u00e8s du fleuve Saloum. La ville est sur le chemin de fer de Dakar au fleuve Niger au Mali.
