Le chef-lieu et grand p\u00f4le urbain est Cap-Ha\u00eftien, l&#8217;ancienne capitale de Saint-Domingue. Situ\u00e9 au sud de l&#8217;oc\u00e9an Atlantique, le Nord fait partie des plaines du nord, fief historique des planteurs blancs, des marrons, de l&#8217;arm\u00e9e noire de Toussaint Louverture et des rebelles anti-am\u00e9ricains lors de l&#8217;occupation des ann\u00e9es 1930. Topographiquement, son territoire est s\u00e9par\u00e9 entre la Plaine du Nord ou Plaine de Caracol du Limb\u00e9 \u00e0 Samana et le Massif du Nord ou Cordill\u00e8re Septentrionale. Les plus grandes rivi\u00e8res sont la Rivi\u00e8re-du-Nord. La rivi\u00e8re Mapou traverse la ville du Cap. Les plages de Cormier sont parmi les plages les plus v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es du Nord. Ce d\u00e9partement a le potentiel d&#8217;\u00eatre la plaque tournante du tourisme historique dans les Cara\u00efbes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exploitation mini\u00e8re<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depuis la p\u00e9riode Taino, les habitants de l&#8217;\u00eele r\u00e9coltent l&#8217;or de mani\u00e8re artisanale. Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 aujourd&#8217;hui, de nombreuses familles ha\u00eftiennes continuent de r\u00e9colter de petites quantit\u00e9s d&#8217;or. La RN3 relie le Nord et l&#8217;Ouest en passant par le Centre.
