United Fruit Company a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e en 1899 par la fusion de Boston Fruit Company et de plusieurs autres entreprises du secteur de la production de bananes en Am\u00e9rique centrale, aux Cara\u00efbes et en Colombie. L&#8217;histoire de cette soci\u00e9t\u00e9 remonte \u00e0 1872, ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 Minor C. Keith commen\u00e7a \u00e0 acqu\u00e9rir des plantations de bananes et \u00e0 construire une voie ferr\u00e9e au Costa Rica. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un marketing sophistiqu\u00e9 et \u00e0 son r\u00e9seau logistique complexe, United Fruit r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 faire de la banane, auparavant un fruit tropical inconnu, un aliment de base aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en Europe de l&#8217;Ouest.
