La ville est une porte d&#8217;entr\u00e9e vers le Sahara au sud et compte environ 180 000 palmiers dans la zone de l&#8217;oasis. L&#8217;oasis elle-m\u00eame se trouve sous un escarpement s&#8217;\u00e9levant jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 200 m\u00e8tres de haut.
