Elle est situ\u00e9e sur le golfe du Saint-Laurent o\u00f9 se jette la rivi\u00e8re Saguenay. Son chef-lieu est Les Escoumins. La municipalit\u00e9 a une superficie de 11 612,68 kilom\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s et sa population \u00e9tait de 10 846 habitants au recensement de 2016.
