Son chef-lieu est Papineauville. Son nom lui vient de la seigneurie de La Petite-Nation, \u00e9tablie \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9poque de la Nouvelle-France. Les guides touristiques utilisent cette m\u00eame appellation pour d\u00e9crire ses attraits. La MRC de Papineau a \u00e9t\u00e9 constitu\u00e9e de 1er janvier 1983. Son territoire reprend la partie orientale de l&#8217;ancien comt\u00e9 de Papineau, lequel couvrait \u00e9galement une grande partie des Collines-de-l&#8217;Outouais et de Gatineau.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G\u00e9ographie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La MRC de Papineau est arros\u00e9e au sud par la rivi\u00e8re des Outaouais. Elle est born\u00e9e \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest par la ville de Gatineau et la MRC des Collines-de-l&#8217;Outaouais, au nord par la MRC d&#8217;Antoine-Labelle, au nord-ouest par la MRC des Laurentides et \u00e0 l&#8217;est par la MRC d&#8217;Argenteuil. La province de l&#8217;Ontario se trouve sur la rive oppos\u00e9e de l&#8217;Outaouais, plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment les comt\u00e9s unis de Prescott et Russell au sud et la ville d&#8217;Ottawa au sud-ouest.
