On y retrouve \u00e0 la fois le centre des affaires et le centre historique de la ville.<\/p>\n<p>Le nom Ville-Marie, le nom original de la colonie fond\u00e9e en 1642 qui deviendra Montr\u00e9al, provient de la notion de ville mariale. Plusieurs villes sont ainsi d\u00e9di\u00e9es \u00e0 ce personnage biblique, \u00e0 l&#8217;image de Lourdes. Les sulpiciens, qui ont fond\u00e9 et gouvern\u00e9 Montr\u00e9al, sont de grands d\u00e9vots de Marie. La vocation mariale de la ville a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue d&#8217;avance par J\u00e9r\u00f4me Le Royer, sieur de La Dauversi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G\u00e9ographie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;arrondissement de Ville-Marie occupe la partie centrale de la ville de Montr\u00e9al, entre le mont Royal et le fleuve Saint-Laurent. Il est entour\u00e9 par la ville de Westmount au sud-ouest, par les arrondissements de C\u00f4te-des-Neiges\u2013Notre-Dame-de-Gr\u00e2ce, Outremont et Le Plateau-Mont-Royal \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve au nord, et Le Sud-Ouest au sud.
