Son chef-lieu est Dolbeau-Mistassini. Du point de vue biophysique, la MRC se caract\u00e9rise par de grands espaces forestiers en plaines agricoles et un r\u00e9seau hydrographique imposant, notamment compos\u00e9 des grandes rivi\u00e8res du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean et de plus de 8 000 lacs.<\/p>\n<p>La population de la <label>municipalit\u00e9 r\u00e9gionale de comt\u00e9 de Maria-Chapdelaine<\/label>, d\u2019environ 25 000 habitants, se concentre au sud du territoire dans les deux villes et les dix municipalit\u00e9s rurales qui forment le milieu municipalis\u00e9. La MRC couvre aussi un immense territoire forestier, commun\u00e9ment appel\u00e9 Territoires non-organis\u00e9s (TNO).
