Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 constitu\u00e9e le 1er janvier 1982. Le chef-lieu de la MRC est la ville d&#8217;Alma. Depuis 2006, la tendance d\u00e9mographique, qui \u00e9tait \u00e0 la baisse depuis plusieurs recensements, s&#8217;est invers\u00e9e. La tendance actuelle est \u00e0 une stabilisation de la population et \u00e0 une augmentation du nombre de m\u00e9nages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9conomie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9conomie de la MRC de Lac-Saint-Jean-Est repose principalement sur trois \u00e9l\u00e9ments importants que sont l\u2019industrie manufacturi\u00e8re, le commerce de d\u00e9tail et les services publics. La grande industrie est bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 la base de l\u2019\u00e9conomie de la MRC avec la pr\u00e9sence de Rio-Tinto Alcan et de Produits forestiers R\u00c9SOLU qui g\u00e9n\u00e8rent un
