La province abrite le parc national des Virunga, un site du patrimoine mondial contenant les gorilles de montagne en voie de disparition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>En 2015, le Nord-Kivu avait une population de 6,655,000 habitants<\/li>\n<li>avec une superficie de 59,483 km\u00b2<\/li>\n<li>Son chef-lieu est Goma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cette province fait l&#8217;objet de violences et de combats depuis 2004, qui provoquent d&#8217;importants d\u00e9placements de population, et entra\u00eenent des crises humanitaires r\u00e9currentes. Les montagnes des Virunga s&#8217;\u00e9tendent \u00e0 travers la province. La cha\u00eene de montagnes abrite les volcans Nyiragongo et Nyamuragira, o\u00f9 se d\u00e9roule environ 40 % de l&#8217;activit\u00e9 volcanique africaine, et le parc national des Virunga, qui abrite des gorilles de montagne, une esp\u00e8ce en voie de disparition.<\/p>\n<p>Le Nord-Kivu est limitrophe de la province de l&#8217;Ituri au nord, les provinces de la Tshopo et du Maniema \u00e0 l\u2019ouest, et le Sud-Kivu au sud. Elle compte une vigtaine des tribus, dont 60% de sa population est constitu\u00e9 des Nande ou Yira.
