Sa capitale est Matadi. Sous la domination coloniale belge, la province \u00e9tait connue sous le nom de Bas-Congo et a \u00e9t\u00e9 rebaptis\u00e9e Kongo Central apr\u00e8s l&#8217;ind\u00e9pendance.<\/p>\n<p>Sous le r\u00e9gime de Mobutu Sese Seko de 1965 \u00e0 1997, le fleuve Congo a \u00e9t\u00e9 rebaptis\u00e9 Za\u00efre. La province s&#8217;appelait Bas-Za\u00efre. Le nom est ensuite devenu Bas-Congo. Appartenant \u00e0 la cha\u00eene des Monts de Cristal, on y trouve le massif de Pallabala, le Mont Lamata, le plateau de Bangu, et le massif du Mayombe en rive droite du Congo qui traverse l&#8217;ensemble en une s\u00e9rie de cascades et de rapides parmi les plus puissants et longs au monde.<\/p>\n<p>Le Kongo Central est centr\u00e9 aux coordonn\u00e9es ; 5\u00b0 49\u2032 sud, 13\u00b0 29\u2032 est.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9conomie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La province est parmi les plus actives de la r\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo avec une \u00e9conomie tr\u00e8s d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e : produits agricoles, productions mini\u00e8res, p\u00e9trole, productions industrielles et autres ;
