Elles jouxtent la fronti\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise situ\u00e9e sur le Doubs, du nom de la rivi\u00e8re qui coupe la vall\u00e9e en deux. Le Bas s&#8217;\u00e9tend de Vaumarcus jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 la limite du lac de Bienne. Plusieurs vall\u00e9es existent entre le Haut et le Bas. Le Val-de-Travers, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest du canton et le Val-de-Ruz &#8211; au centre &#8211; en sont les principales.<\/p>\n<p>Le canton de Neuch\u00e2tel culmine \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest du Chasseral, \u00e0 1 552 m d&#8217;altitude, et ses points les plus bas se trouvent au bord des lacs de Bienne et de Neuch\u00e2tel, \u00e0 429 m d&#8217;altitude. Le Val-de-Travers est connu pour \u00eatre le berceau de l&#8217;absinthe, qui a maintenant \u00e9t\u00e9 re-l\u00e9galis\u00e9e en Suisse et dans le monde. Il y a de l&#8217;\u00e9levage laitier et de l&#8217;\u00e9levage bovin dans les vall\u00e9es, mais c&#8217;est pour l&#8217;\u00e9levage de chevaux que Neuch\u00e2tel a une belle r\u00e9putation. L&#8217;horlogerie est bien implant\u00e9e dans le canton, la m\u00e9canique fine et la production de puces \u00e9lectroniques y \u00e9tant implant\u00e9es plus r\u00e9cemment. Les \u00e9tablissements d&#8217;enseignement sup\u00e9rieur comprennent la haute \u00c9cole Arc (repr\u00e9sentant Berne, le Jura et Neuch\u00e2tel) et l\u00bbUniversit\u00e9 de Neuch\u00e2tel (UniNE).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les communes politiques neuch\u00e2teloises modernes datent de la deuxi\u00e8me moiti\u00e9 du 19<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle et reprennent des structures urbaines ou villageoises pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes.<\/p>\n<p>En 2021, le canton de Neuch\u00e2tel compte 27 communes, r\u00e9parties en quatre r\u00e9gions. Les r\u00e9gions remplacent au 1er janvier 2018 les six districts et reprennent \u00e0 cette date leur r\u00f4le d&#8217;\u00e9chelon statistique.<\/p>\n<p>Le canton s&#8217;\u00e9tend \u00e9galement sur les lacs de Bienne et de Neuch\u00e2tel, sans que ces deux zones ne fassent partie d&#8217;aucune commune ; elles sont comprises dans la liste \u00e0 fins de comparaison.<\/p>\n<div
