La majeure partie de la r\u00e9gion est montagneuse. Le plus haut sommet des Alpes glaronaises est le T\u00f6di \u00e0 3 614 m\u00e8tres. Les autres montagnes comprennent le Hausstock (3 158 m\u00e8tres) et le Gl\u00e4rnisch (2 910 m\u00e8tres). Il y a aussi un grand lac appel\u00e9 lac de Walenstadt au nord. La superficie totale du canton de Glaris est de 685 kilom\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s, dont environ la moiti\u00e9 est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme productive. La sylviculture est une branche importante de l&#8217;industrie dans le canton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9conomie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La g\u00e9ographie du canton contribue \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9tablissement d&#8217;ardoisi\u00e8res au XVII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. L&#8217;environnement montagneux de Glaris est \u00e9galement un avantage durant l&#8217;industrialisation. La filature du coton est importante au XVIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, en compl\u00e9ment de la filature traditionnelle de la laine. En 2008, sur ces 5 %, pr\u00e8s des trois quarts d&#8217;entre eux travaillent dans la production laiti\u00e8re et l&#8217;\u00e9levage de b\u00e9tail. En 2014, le secteur secondaire employait 8 322 personnes, soit environ 38,2 % du total, ce qui est bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 que les 21,8 % pour l&#8217;ensemble du pays.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi ceux du secteur secondaire, plus d&#8217;un quart travaillait dans le secteur de la construction. Pour finir, le secteur tertiaire employait 12 366 personnes, soit environ 56,8 % du total, ce qui est inf\u00e9rieur de pr\u00e8s de 18 % aux 74,9 % du pays.
