En tant que centre de la R\u00e9forme calviniste, la ville de Gen\u00e8ve a eu une grande influence sur le canton, qui se compose essentiellement de la ville et de sa banlieue. Il est entour\u00e9 des d\u00e9partements de l&#8217;Ain \u00e0 l&#8217;ouest, et de la Haute-Savoie \u00e0 l&#8217;est et au sud, ainsi que du canton de Vaud au nord, dans lequel est enclav\u00e9e la commune genevoise de C\u00e9ligny.<\/p>\n<p>Le point le plus haut du canton se trouve aux Arales, qui culminent \u00e0 516 m\u00e8tres, et son point le plus bas se trouve \u00e0 Chancy au bord du Rh\u00f4ne, \u00e0 332 m d&#8217;altitude. Avec 282,48 km\u00b2, Gen\u00e8ve est le sixi\u00e8me plus petit canton de Suisse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9conomie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9conomie genevoise est largement ax\u00e9e sur les services. Le canton est souvent class\u00e9 comme l&#8217;une des places financi\u00e8res mondiales les plus solides, se classant 9<sup>e<\/sup> au monde en 2020 et 2<sup>e<\/sup> en Europe derri\u00e8re Londres. Environ 22% du coton mondial est commercialis\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9gion du L\u00e9man. L&#8217;acier, l&#8217;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 ou le caf\u00e9 sont d&#8217;autres principaux produits \u00e9chang\u00e9s dans le canton. Les grandes soci\u00e9t\u00e9s commerciales ont leur si\u00e8ge r\u00e9gional ou mondial dans le canton, comme Cargill, Vitol, Gunvor, BNP Paribas ou Mercuria Energy Group, en plus d&#8217;abriter la deuxi\u00e8me compagnie maritime mondiale, Mediterranean Shipping Company. Le n\u00e9goce des mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res est soutenu par un secteur de financement commercial fort, avec de grandes banques telles que la BCGE, la BCP, BNP Paribas, la BCV, le Cr\u00e9dit Agricole, le Cr\u00e9dit suisse, ING, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale et UBS, toutes ayant leur si\u00e8ge dans la r\u00e9gion pour cette activit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depuis 1931, le canton de Gen\u00e8ve compte 45 communes. Il n&#8217;est pas divis\u00e9 en districts.<\/p>\n<p>Le canton s&#8217;\u00e9tend \u00e9galement sur le lac L\u00e9man, sans que cette zone ne fasse partie d&#8217;aucune commune ; elle est comprise dans la liste \u00e0 fins de comparaison. Au 31 d\u00e9cembre 2019, le canton de Gen\u00e8ve compte 13 villes (plus de 10 000 habitants) sur les 45 communes genevoises .<\/p>\n<p>Au nord-est, la commune de C\u00e9ligny n&#8217;est pas
