L&#8217;\u00eele est inhabit\u00e9e, \u00e0 l&#8217;exception d&#8217;un \u00e9tablissement Dorset (pal\u00e9o-Inuit) qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9 en 1900 et un ancien forage p\u00e9trolier exploratoire, construit en 1971. L&#8217;\u00eele est un sanctuaire important pour les oiseaux de mer nichant dans les falaises, y compris son homonyme l&#8217;Akpat ou Guillemot de Br\u00fcnnich, qui niche dans les falaises gr\u00eal\u00e9es aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s nord et sud de l&#8217;\u00eele.
