C&#8217;est de loin le plus grand des trois \u00c9tats ind\u00e9pendants du monde compl\u00e8tement entour\u00e9 par le territoire d&#8217;un autre pays, la Cit\u00e9 du Vatican et Saint-Marin \u00e9tant les deux autres. De plus, c&#8217;est le seul \u00c9tat de ce type en dehors de la p\u00e9ninsule italienne, et le seul qui n&#8217;est pas un micro-\u00c9tat. C&#8217;est maintenant un \u00c9tat pleinement souverain et membre des Nations Unies, du Commonwealth des Nations, de l&#8217;Union africaine et de la Communaut\u00e9 de d\u00e9veloppement d&#8217;Afrique australe (CDAA). Le nom Lesotho se traduit approximativement par \u00abterre des Sotho\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le Lesotho est g\u00e9ographiquement entour\u00e9 par l&#8217;Afrique du Sud et \u00e9conomiquement int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 celle-ci. L&#8217;\u00e9conomie du Lesotho repose sur l&#8217;agriculture, l&#8217;\u00e9levage, la fabrication et l&#8217;exploitation mini\u00e8re, et d\u00e9pend fortement des envois de fonds et des recettes des travailleurs de l&#8217;Union douani\u00e8re d&#8217;Afrique australe (SACU). La majorit\u00e9 des m\u00e9nages vivent de l&#8217;agriculture. L&#8217;emploi dans le secteur formel se compose principalement de travailleuses dans le secteur de l&#8217;habillement, de travailleurs migrants masculins, principalement des mineurs en Afrique du Sud pendant trois \u00e0 neuf mois, et d&#8217;emplois par le gouvernement du Lesotho.
