La d\u00e9marcation la plus courante dans les atlas et autres sources suit le bassin versant des monts Dari\u00e9n qui se divise le long de la fronti\u00e8re Colombie-Panama o\u00f9 l&#8217;isthme rencontre le continent sud-am\u00e9ricain.<\/p>\n<p>Pratiquement tous les atlas r\u00e9pertorient le Panama comme un \u00c9tat faisant enti\u00e8rement partie de l&#8217;Am\u00e9rique du Nord et\/ou de l&#8217;Am\u00e9rique centrale.<\/p>\n<p>Un \u00c9tat souverain est une association politique jouissant d&#8217;une souverainet\u00e9 effective sur une population pour laquelle elle prend des d\u00e9cisions dans l&#8217;int\u00e9r\u00eat national.
