Le d\u00e9partement a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1808 par Napol\u00e9on, le territoire \u00e9tant pr\u00e9lev\u00e9 sur les d\u00e9partements du Lot, de la Haute-Garonne, du Lot-et-Garonne, du Gers et de l&#8217;Aveyron. Le chasselas de Moissac est renomm\u00e9 dans toute la r\u00e9gion, ainsi qu&#8217;en France ; il a d&#8217;ailleurs re\u00e7u l&#8217;appellation d&#8217;origine contr\u00f4l\u00e9e avec une production de 4 000 tonnes par an en 2012.
